Public shares¶
Create public share¶
To share a folder/file without requiring users to be logged in, you can Share publicly
(create a "Public link"). You can create multiple public links for the same folder/file, with different permissions.
Tip
Public links can be renamed as a way to keep track of what is being used for.
You can additionally set several options for the public links:
- Role:
- Can view (can view and download content)
- Can edit (can view, download, edit and delete content)
- Secret File Drop (anonymous upload: can upload but existing contents are not revealed)
Note
On Secret File Drop links, the file name collisions are avoid by adding random characters at the end of the filename. This way, users can upload a file without worrying someone else is going to replace it.
Additionally, if users upload a folder, only its contents are uploaded (files are all in the destination folder, but no sub-structure is maintained).
In the context menu of the link (in ) it's also possible to change:
- Name
- Expiration date
- Password
Warning
For security reasons, public links with "can edit" role need to have an expiration. A default date is applied, but extending the expiration is still possible from the context menu (in ).
You can delete the link in
Overview of public links¶
To have an overview of all public links created by you, just click in Shares
- Shared publicly
on the left menu.
Considerations on usage¶
Public links are suitable to anonymously serve files in case of relatively small amount of data.
If you need to transfer larger files, we recommend you to use EOS web sites.
